 WE WANT TO BUILD A

WORLD CLASS SKATEPLAZA THAT'S MORE THAN YOUR EVERYDAY SKATEPARK

July 2022 Conceptual Design

THE PROJECT

OUR GOAL  for the Hilo Skateplaza is to build/establish a minimum of 25,000 square feet of skateable concrete, a covered roller arena for for hockey, roller derby, artistic skating and other roller sports complete with lights, restroom facilities, pavilion(s), parking lot, and more.

OUR VISION is the creation of a safe, world-class recreation venue that serves the Big Island of Hawai'i’s community and provides a wide variety of economic and recreational opportunities for local merchants, visitors and residents alike.

OUR MISSION  is to engage the community at all levels and to work directly with the County of Hawai`i Department of Parks and Recreation to develop a safe recreational and competitive arena that will serve current and future generations of athletes and those that support alternative sports, lifestyles and art forms.

THE SITE: The County of Hawai`i Department of Parks and Recreation has dedicated nearly 3 acres of land on Manono St. and across from the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium for this project

WHO WE ARE

HILO SKATEPLAZA COALITION is a grassroots community organization working with the Hawai`i County Department of Parks and Recreation to design and build the largest and most unique alternative sporting complex in the state of Hawai`i. Our members come from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

Our job is to work with the CoH throughout the design and building process of this project and our role will change from one phase to the next. We are currently in the designing phase and are working to bring community members and interest groups together to voice/listen to the needs and desires of the public and to ensure these are fully represented during the design process.
